The Show Continues – Role of Spartacus Recast
by Spartacus on Oct.07, 2010, under News
Great news! The role of Spartacus, as played previously by Andy Whitfield before he was diagnosed with cancer, will be recasted. This is good news because the alternative to a recast was the cancellation of the show. While I cannot imagine any other actor playing this character, it’s good to know that the show will go on. On behalf of all the Spartacus: Blood and Sand fans, we wish you the best Andy Whitfield.

I hate to say this but I do not intend to watch Spartacus without Andy Whitfield. So sorry to hear that he is not well again. I know recasting is the only alternative but the show loses it’s appeal without the true SPARTACUS. He did such an amazing job in the first season. I wish him well and hope for a speedy remission.

I hear ya! I’m very hesitant to do so myself, as he just made the role of Spartacus. No other people can fill in his shoes.
But I know that despite this the show will be fantastic as it continues

I think Sam Worthington from Clash of the Titans should make a run at it, but I agree that Andy Whitfield is amazing.

Sam Worthington would have been a great replacement. We’ll have to see how Liam McIntyre plays him instead though!
