Later on in the series, Varro gets the opportunity to see both his child and his wife. He finds out that she is pregnant with someone else’s child and gets very upset. She states that the person forced himself onto her and that she didn’t want to cheat. While still mad, he ends up gambling a lot of his earnings away and even pays money for a prostitute. Spartacus fortunately talks him out of the path he’s chosen and eventually Varro forgives his wife and writes her a letter. After no response, Spartacus and Varro discover that nobody is at Varro’s household and that there was blood found on the floor. Varro begins to freak out, but fortunately finds out that she is safe at a family member’s house and that the blood was from the person who impregnated her.

All is well up until an exhibition fight between Spartacus and Varro where Numerius, son of Calavius, tells Spartacus to kill Varro. He did so because of Ilithyia, who wanted Spartacus to be hurt. She had seduced Numerius into doing so. Unfortunately, Batiatus approves to try to get on the good side of Calavius, which proves to be a futile effort. Varro dies.
